Ina garden | Noam Galai / Getty Images for NYCWFF This is how you make Ina Garten’s salmon with lentil recipeWhile demonstrating how to make her salmon and lentil recipe on the Barefoot Contessa Cooking Show, Garten first explained that this dish can be scaled to feed a crowd or make a perfect dinner for two. “Salmon with lentils – it’s a great party dish because you can make it in bulk, but it’s also perfect for two,” she said. Garten first poured the lentils in a bowl of boiling water and let them soften for 10 minutes. While they were soaking, she heated olive oil in a pan over medium heat and cooked onions, leeks, thyme, salt, and pepper for 10 minutes. She added garlic and cooked it for a few minutes, then added the carrots and celery. Garten explained that onions and leeks “are pretty much the same family, but the leeks are slightly more delicate than the onions. They are great together. “ The Barefoot Contessa star announced that the simple vegetable mix is “really chunky” and “has a lot of flavor – and the lentils are only part of it”. She added the chicken broth, tomato paste, and the lentils to the mixture and cooked it for 20 minutes. She rubbed the salmon fillets with olive oil and added salt and pepper to the side. “This really is the only seasoning so make sure you season it really well,” she remarked. She put the salmon in a really hot pan, seasoned side down. “And just leave it,” she remarked. “I know it’s really tempting to put it off, but you want to make a really great crust.” Garten cooked the salmon for two minutes, turned it over, and then roasted it in a 450 degree Fahrenheit oven for 5 to 7 minutes. “And it will be perfect,” she assured me. “Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.” “This is how they cook it in restaurants and it comes out perfect,” she added.
